Where to Stay

Hotels abound in Shanghai, ranging for small hostels with squat toilets to luxury hotels that surpass anything you’d find in America and Europe. Here are a range of hotels that we recommend and use for our tour groups:

Motel 168
Motel 268

Jin Jiang Star

Central Hotel Shanghai

New Jin Jiang Tower
Huating Hotel

Motel 168 and 268 have multiple branches in Shanghai, as does Jin Jiang Star. Of course, there are also chain hotels around Shanghai, such as the Marriott and Howard Johnson. Those two hotels are older, but centrally located around People’s Square, which is where most of Shanghai’s tourists sites are located.

Service in the 4 and 5 star hotels is, of course, impeccable. Employees are required to speak English fluently, so communication is easy there. In cheaper hotels the English ability is worse, as is expected, but more than likely they have at least one person who speaks at least conversational English.
